At age 15, I read ad man Jerry Della Femina’s From Those Wonderful Folks Who Gave You Pearl Harbor. His intended joke during a pitch for a Japanese camera company fell flat on his prospective clients, but inspired me throughout my career. Who knew business could be funny?
I managed to get a college degree, but learned more about human nature in restaurant work at night and on weekends. Post-college and a year and a half of overseas travel, including a year as one of the elite corps of Degania Date Danglers, which is a date farmer in Israel, I got a break as an entry-level copywriter for a medical ad agency in Chicago.
For the next twenty years I had a love affair with the science, business and creativity of the medicines industry. I was fortunate to have worked on some amazing medical advances, and with a variety of brilliant, motivated and curious people. I’ve posted some funny, true stories picked up along this meandering career path. Check out my blog.
